A new alternative to Botox is available called Dysport. The injectable medication is a botulinum toxin, similar to Botox. Studies performed outside of the US has shown that the medication has a slightly quicker action of onset than Botox, lasts slightly longer (by days, not months), and is currently being sold for a less expensive price. Though the basic unit of dosing is a Unit, the equivalency to Botox is different. Currently, the recommended starting dose of Botox in an area is 20 units while the starting dose of Dysport is 50 units.
